Update On Sarorn Mao

Update On Sarorn Mao
Entrepreneur: Sarorn Mao
Location: Muk Kampoul district, Cambodia
Amount Repaid: $177.00 of $700.00

Sarorn is funded by a Kiva loan administered by Maxima Mikroheranhvatho Co., Ltd. here in Cambodia. Sarorn lives in a small village along National Road 6 north of Phnom Penh. As of our visit, her loan was being paid off on schedule. With the funds from the loan, she paid for new concrete piers to support her house, a new toilet and the construction of an additional, small, one-room house behind her existing one.

Sarorn’s house is typical of all the houses in this area. Her village is backed by the Mekong River which periodically floods. Almost all the houses are raised at least two meters above the ground – the older ones on wooden posts. Nine family members live in Sarorn’s main house and the smaller new one - Sarorn, her father and her seven children.

She says she is happy and doesn’t need much. Her hopes for the future focus on helping her children to be secure. Two sons remain in school in her commune. The others work in a local garment factory.
